Terrorism moves to heart of US election campaign
The worst mass shooting in modern US history put terrorism at the heart of the 2016 election campaign on Monday as Donald Trump called for heightened surveillance of US mosques and Hillary Clinton called for tighter controls on assault weapons.
Mr Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, had been planning to attack the ethics of Mrs Clinton, his likely Democratic rival, in a speech on Monday but switched after Sunday’s attack on a gay nightclub on Orlando to attack her and President Barack Obama as being soft on Islamist terrorism.
